To help raise awareness about a common sexually transmitted disease, the American Social Health Association will be giving away copies of a brochure about human papillomavirus (HPV) this month, National STD Awareness Month.

Some types of HPV can cause genital and anal warts, while other varieties have been linked to cervical cancer, according to ASHA. The disease has no cure, but treatment can remove warts.

Besides explaining the basics about HPV, the brochure offers suggestions on how to discuss it and other STDs with a physician or other health-care professional.

For a free copy of ``A Practical Guide for the Tongue-Tied: How to Talk With Your Health-Care Provider About HPV and Other STDs,'' call ASHA through April 30 at (800) 677-4100.

The National Consumers League has released three new brochures in Spanish on over-the-counter medication safety. The pamphlets provide information on instructions, warnings and uses of antacids and medications for asthma and allergies.

The three new brochures are part of a series of six, including information on children's medicine, pain medications, and cough and cold medications.

The league, which produced the brochures with funding from the Nonprescription Drug Manufacturers Association, is a nonprofit membership organization representing consumers on issues such as health care, fair labor standards, and food and drug safety.
